Everyday words can convey inequality, prejudice, and ways to silence others. Language is not neutral but reflects and reinforces power relations. Seemingly innocent, the expression “Let me explain” conceals a paternalistic attitude and is often used by those who assume a position of intellectual superiority to belittle the opinions of others and mock their emotional strength.
Isabella Ragonese, accompanied by the music of Valeria Sturba, will be performing on stage texts by female authors who invite us to look beyond words to recognize this often underrated behaviour that constitutes fertile ground for violence against women.
