Chairman of Unipol Assicurazioni S.p.A. (“Unipol)”, formerly Unipol Gruppo S.p.A., which incorporated, as of 31 December 2024, UnipolSai Assicurazioni S.p.A., of which he also held the position of Chairman, which was itself formed in 2014 from the merger between the insurance groups Unipol and Fondiaria-SAI.
Born in Cagliari in 1965 and with a degree with honors in Business Administration from the University of Bologna.
Has over 30 years of experience in the banking and insurance sectors.
He joined Unipol in 1990, where he held over the years positions of growing responsibility, until he became one of the General Managers of the Unipol Group in 2005. Subsequently, in 2007, he became sole General Manager and, in 2010, he was also appointed Chief Executive Officer, a position he held until April 2022, when he was appointed Chairman.
Under his leadership, Unipol has achieved extraordinary dimensions and results, consolidating its position as the leader in Italy in the Non-Life, chiefly in Motor TPL, business with 13,200 employees, €17.4bn in insurance income in 2025 and approximately 17.6 million customers, thus becoming one of the main players in the insurance sector at European level.
In March 2025, the Group presented Stronger|Faster|Better, a strategic plan firmly anchored to its core business and in line with the expertise and quality that Unipol has developed over the years, with the ambition of dealing with increasingly complex and rapidly changing scenarios. An integrated data-driven approach, enhanced omnichannel distribution and further technological evolution are the pillars for further strengthening the Group's competitiveness.
He currently also holds the position of Board Member of RCS Media Group, is a member of the board of Euresa Association and of ICMIF (International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation), President of the European Institute of Oncology, which also includes the Monzino Cardiology Center, Italian centers of excellence in oncology and cardiology and Board Member of the University Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.
In 2016 he was awarded the prestigious "Guido Carli Award" recognized for Italian excellence in the world of economics, high finance, culture and social commitment.
On 2 June 2024 he was awarded the honor of Cavaliere del Lavoro by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella.In October 2024, he was awarded the NIAF Leonardo da Vinci Lifetime Achievement Award for Leadership in Corporate Social Responsibility and Impact in Washington D.C..
